Why We Build What We Build
At William & Henry, we craft wide plank wood floors that bring natural character, enduring stability, and unmistakable beauty into every home.
Our work is rooted in preserving what makes real wood special — the warmth underfoot, the quiet imperfections that give it life, and the way it grows more meaningful with time. We believe a well-made flood shouldn’t follow trends or fade with age; it should become a part of your home’s story, lasting and honest from the day it’s installed through generations of living.
Where We Come From
William & Henry didn’t begin as a business idea — it began as a family inheritance.
Don Carlisle is a second-generation expert in wide plank flooring, taught by his father, Dale Carlisle, who introduced him early to both the character and the science of wood, teaching him to understand each tree not just as material, but as part of a larger ecosystem. Together, they founded Carlisle Restoration Lumber, crafting floors from Old Growth Eastern White Pine and honoring the materials and methods found in early American homes — the very roots of wide plank flooring.
Under Don’s leadership, that small company evolved into Carlisle Wide Plank Floors, a brand that helped define the modern wide plank flooring industry. By pairing traditional craftsmanship with innovation, Carlisle set new standards for scale, quality, and responsible sourcing — bringing wide plank floors into homes and commercial settings across the country and beyond.
That same legacy of craftsmanship, sustainability, and respect for natural materials continues at William & Henry today. What began as a family trade has grown into a modern brand built on enduring values: honesty, integrity, and high-quality, hand-crafted floors.
What Sets
Us Apart
Many floors are made to be sold.
Ours are made to be kept.
Custom Wide Planks
We specialize in custom wide planks, curated finishes, and materials selected for durability, compatibility with any type of heating system (including radiant heat), and long-term stability. Every board is touched by craftsmen who care as much about performance as beauty.
Relationships
And just as important: we build relationships, not inventory. We work directly with homeowners, builders, and designers to understand the vision, the constraints, and the way a home is meant to feel. It’s never a transaction—it’s a collaboration grounded in trust.

The People Behind the Craft
Don Carlisle
Founder & President
Don grew up in rural New Hampshire, learning the wood‑working trade alongside his father. He took over the family business in the early ’90s and eventually built it into a widely respected name in wide plank flooring. After selling that company, he returned to what he loves most: working one on one with each homeowner and crafting custom floors by hand. Outside of work, you’ll find Don outdoors — fly‑fishing, hunting, gardening, or sharing time with his family.
Adam Whitney
Partner
Raised in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Adam’s early days renovating his family’s farmhouse introduced him to traditional building methods and wide plank flooring. He began working with Don at the family business and today brings that experience — plus a deep respect for wood, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design — to every project. Outside of the workshop, Adam enjoys fly‑fishing, gardening, and exploring the outdoors with his family and his Siberian Husky, Pickles.
The Home You Can Picture Already
Imagine stepping into a room where the floor quietly steals your breath. Sunlight moves across grain patterns that feel both timeless and uniquely yours. The space feels warmer, calmer, more grounded. This is what we design for—those everyday moments when a home simply feels right because the foundation beneath just feels like home.
